8/29  THE FAMILY EDUCATION SERIES AT DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA WILL FEATURE SEVERAL EVENTS ABOUT ATOMIC BOMBS ON SATURDAY.  AT 1:30PM, THERE WILL BE AN INFORMATIVE SESSION ON HOW ATOMIC BOMBS WORK, AT 2:30PM, YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT PRESIDENT TRUMAN’S OPTIONS ABOUT USING THE BOMB AND AT 3PM, YOU WILL SEE THE ORIGINAL 1951 CIVIL DEFENSE FILM THAT TAUGHT A GENERATION ABOUT THE ATOMIC BOMB.  ALL PROGRAMS ARE FREE WITH YOUR DPA ADMISSION.  TO FIND OUT MORE, GO TO DISCOVERYPARKOFAMERICA.COM.

8/29  BUCHANAN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WILL HOST THEIR 5TH SATURDAY SING ON THIS WEEKEND AT THE CHURCH AT HIGHWAY 140 AND RABBIT CREEK ROAD IN BUCHANAN.  A POT LUCK DINNER WILL START AT 5PM AND THE SINGING WILL BEGIN AT 6PM.  EVERYONE IS WELCOME.

8/30  THE OBION COUNTY REBELS AND UNION CITY TORNADOES ARE TEAMING UP TO FIGHT HUNGER IN OUR COMMUNITY ON SUNDAY FROM 2PM-4PM AT WAL-MART IN UNION CITY.  SCHOOL OFFICIALS ARE ASKING FOR HELP IN COLLECTING FOOD ITEMS LIKE CEREAL BARS, FRUIT SNACKS, POP TARTS, JUICE BOXES AND PUDDING CUPS.  ITEMS COLLECTED WILL GO TOWARD SUPPORTING THE SCHOOLS’ BACK PACK PROGRAM TO HELP FEED LOCAL CHILDREN.  

8/30  THE UNION CITY J’CETTES WILL HOLD THEIR ANNUAL CORNFEST 5K ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH AT UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL.  SUPER-HEROES ARE THE THEME THIS YEAR AND  YOU’RE ENCOURAGED TO COME DRESSED AS YOUR FAVORITE CRIME-FIGHTER.  REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 8AM WITH THE RACE TO FOLLOW AT 9AM.  THE FEE IS $15 IF YOU REGISTER BY SUNDAY, OTHERWISE IT IS $20 ON RACE DAY.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO GET SIGNED UP, CALL 731-571-0745.

8/31  UT-MARTIN ALUMNI RELATIONS WILL HOLD AN ALUMNI TAILGATE EVENT RIGHT BEFORE THE SKYHAWKS TAKE ON THE OLE MISS REBELS ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH IN OXFORD, MS.  THE PRICE FOR THE EVENT IS $70 AND INCLUDES A GAME TICKET, TICKET TO THE TAILGATE PARTY AND AN ALUMNI SHIRT.  FOOD AND DRINKS WILL BE PROVIDED PRIOR TO THE GAME, ALONG WITH A FULL MEAL AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE CONTEST.  TO GET YOUR TICKETS, CALL 881-7207.

8/31  THE JDRF (JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION) 5K RUN AND FUN WALK WILL BE SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH IN UNION CITY.  THE 5K WILL START AT 8AM AT THE UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIELD AND THE WALK WILL BEGIN AT 9AM AT GRAHAM PARK.  ENTRY FEE IS $20 IF YOU REGISTER BY MONDAY, OTHERWISE IT IS $25 ON RACE DAY.  PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARDS CURING TYPE 1 DIABETES.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO SIGN UP, CALL 446-2061.

8/31  THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL IS COMPETING TO WIN THE “BEST LOOKING CRUISER” AWARD CONTEST SPONSORED BY THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF STATE TROOPERS.  THE WINNER WILL BE FEATURED ON THE COVER OF THE AAST BEST-LOOKING CRUISERS 2016 WALL CALENDAR.  TO VOTE, GO TO THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF STATE TROOPERS FACEBOOK PAGE AND LIKE THE THP CRUISER.  VOTING IS OPEN THROUGH MONDAY.

THE TICKETS WILL BE GIVEN AWAY AFTER THE LIFELINE BLOOD DRIVE IN PARIS ON OCTOBER 1ST.  DONATE BLOOD THROUGH LIFELINE AND YOU COULD WIN A CHANCE TO SEE THE TITANS PLAY THIS SEASON.

9/12  SHADY GROVE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WILL SPONSOR THEIR ANNUAL “SCOOP-ETITION ICE CREAM FOR A CAUSE” EVENT IN KIWANIS PARK IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH FROM 1PM-3PM.  YOU GET A SPOON AND ALL THE SCOOPS OF HOMEMADE ICE CREAM YOU CAN EAT.  THE COST IS $4 FOR 11 & UP, $2 FOR AGES 4-10 AND KIDS UNDER THREE EAT FOR FREE.  THERE WILL ALSO BE INFLATABLES FOR THE KIDS AND LIVE MUSIC BY THE FROG JUMP QUARTET.  ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO REELFOOT RURAL MINISTRIES.

9/12  A “DANCING WITH OUR LOCAL STARS” FUNDRAISING EVENT BE HELD AT THE DIXIE CARTER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN HUNTINGDON ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH AT 7:30PM.  LOCAL CELEBRITIES LIKE STATE REP. CURTIS HALFORD AND LANE COLLEGE PRESIDENT DR. LOGAN HAMPTON WILL TAKE TO THE DANCE FLOOR TO PERFORM.  TICKETS ARE $50 EACH AND ARE AVAILABLE AT THE DIXIE BOX OFFICE, BY PHONE AT 731-986-2100 OR ONLINE AT DIXIEPAC.NET.

9/15  THE OBION COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY AND WLJT WILL WELCOME IN SOME OF PBS’ MOST POPULAR CHARACTERS FOR THIS YEAR’S OBION COUNTY CORNFEST KIDS CONCERT.  STEVE SONGS AND PEG + (PLUS) CAT WILL BE AT THE LIBRARY ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH AT 6PM.  YOU’RE INVITED TO BRING YOUR CAMERAS AND TAKE PICTURES AFTER THE CONCERT.  THIS FREE FAMILY-FUN EVENT WILL BE HELD IN THE LIBRARY’S NEW AMPITHEATER. 

9/19  THE OBION COUNTY CORNFEST “DAY IN THE PARK” CELEBRATION WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH IN KIWANIS PARK IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY STARTING AT 9AM.  THERE WILL BE A CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT, A CORNFEST IDOL CONTEST, BED RACES, CAKE WALKS AND A FREE CHICKEN DINNER COMPLIMENTS OF TYSON.  THEN, AT 4 PM, HEAD OVER TO DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA FOR THE GREAT AMERICAN AIR-SHOW.  FOR A COMPLETE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS, GO TO OBIONCOUNTYCORNFEST.COM.
