4/25  WENK/WTPR WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE THE UTM STUDENT-OPERATED RADIO STATION, WUTM, 90.3 “THE HAWK” FOR ONCE AGAIN WINNING THE PLATINUM AWARD AT THE INTERCOLLEGIATE BROADCASTING SYSTEM NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN NEW YORK CITY.  WUTM WAS ALSO A TOP FIVE FINALIST IN 11 CATEGORIES OF COMPETITION, MORE THAN ANY OTHER COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY IN THE COUNTRY.

4/26  THERE WILL BE A BENEFIT FOR LYNN GILLIAM, WHO WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH METASTATIC MELANOMA, ON SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH FROM 4PM-7PM AT THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FAMILY LIFE CENTER IN MCKENZIE. THEY’LL HAVE BBQ PLATES FOR $8, SILENT & LIVE AUCTIONS, FACE PAINTING AND BOUNCE HOUSES FOR THE KIDS.  PROCEEDS WILL HELP OFFSET LYNN’S TRAVEL AND MEDICAL EXPENSES WHILE HE UNDERGOES TREATMENTS IN HOUSTON.

4/26  THE POPULAR “BIRDS OF PREY” PROGRAM WILL BE HELD AT DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA ON SATURDAY STARTING AT 11AM.  THE PROGRAM WILL BE HELD AT THE SETTLEMENT ON THE GROUNDS OF DPA.  YOU’LL BE ABLE TO COME FACE-TO-FACE WITH A BALD EAGLE, SCREECH OWL, RED TAILED HAWK AND OTHER BIRDS OF PREY.  THE PROGRAM IS FREE WITH PAID ADMISSION.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 731-885-5455

4/26  THE MARTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL HAVE A DRUG TAKE-BACK EVENT FROM 10AM UNTIL 2PM ON SATURDAY AT THE GAZEBO NEXT TO THE MARTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT IN DOWNTOWN MARTIN.  MARTIN POLICE WILL BE ON HAND TO COLLECT ANY AND ALL PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS THE PUBLIC WOULD LIKE TO GET RID OF.  THE SERVICE IS FREE AND ANONYMOUS, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

5/3  SULLIVAN DENTISTRY AND ADVANCED GASTROENTEROLOGY ARE HOSTING A “COLOR FOR A CURE 5K COLOR RUN” ON SATURDAY, MAY 3RD AT UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL.  REGISTRATION STARTS AT 7:45AM WITH THE RACE TO BEGIN AT 8:30AM.  IF YOU REGISTER BY SATURDAY, APRIL 26TH, IT’S ONLY $15, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE $20 ON RACE DAY.  ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE OBION COUNTY HOMETOWN WALK OF HOPE.

5/3  THE DAVID JOHNSON CHORUS CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF THE BEATLES WITH A NIGHT OF MUSIC OF THE FAB FOUR ON SATURDAY, MAY 3RD AT 7PM AT THE KRIDER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN PARIS.  TICKETS ARE $10 FOR ADULTS, CHILDREN AND STUDENTS ARE FREE.  TICKETS ARE ON SALE AT THE PARIS CIVIC CENTER, MERISON’S FURNITURE AND LEACH’S MUSIC.

5/17  SATURDAY, MAY 17TH IS “HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION DAY” AT THE OBION COUNTY RECYCLE CENTER ON MOUNT ZION ROAD IN UNION CITY FROM 8AM TO NOON. NO LATEX PAINT WILL BE ACCEPTED, BUT YOU CAN BRING GASOLINE, OIL, PESTICIDES, FERTILIZER, POOL CHEMICALS, MEDICINES, FLUORESCENT BULBS 7 TUBES AND OTHER HARMFUL WASTES.
