4/30  THE MONTH OF APRIL IS “HENRY COUNTY RABIES VACCINATION MONTH”.  ALL PARTICIPATING ANIMAL CLINICS IN HENRY COUNTY WILL OFFER DOG OR CAT VACCINATIONS FOR $6 PLUS A $1.50 LICENSE FEE.  LAKEWAY ANIMAL CLINIC, MINERAL WELLS ANIMAL CLINIC, PARIS VETERINARY CLINIC AND THE ANIMAL DOCTOR WILL OFFER THESE SPECIAL RATES THROUGH APRIL 30TH.

4/30  UNION CITY PARKS AND RECREATION NOW HAS SIX FLAGS ST. LOUIS TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE.  THE PRICE FOR A ONE DAY GENERAL ADMISSION TICKET IS $40.  SEASON PASSES ARE AVAILABLE AS WELL.  FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL 885-0354 OR GO TO UCPARK.COM.

5/1  DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA WILL OFFICIALLY OPEN LIBATION STATION FOR THE YEAR AT 5 ON FRIDAY AT THE DEPOT.  FRIDAY NIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT WILL BE PROVIDED BY OLIVIA FAYE. BEVERAGES ARE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AND THERE WILL BE FREE SNACKS AS WELL.  LIBATION STATION WILL BE OPEN MOST THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAYS FROM 5PM-8PM THROUGH AUGUST.

5/1  SHILOH METHODIST WILL PRESENT THE YOUTH WORSHIP EXPERIENCE “SOAR 2015” ON FRIDAY AT THE CENTRAL COMMUNITY CENTER ON JONES BEND EXTENDED IN PARIS STARTING AT 7PM.  JUSTIN DALEY WILL BE THE FEATURED SPEAKER AND THERE WILL BE MUSIC FROM CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN BAND “RISEN”.  EVERYONE IS WELCOME.

5/2  PARIS ROTARY CLUB WILL HOST THEIR 42ND ANNUAL HAM BREAKFAST AT THE PARIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAFETERIA ON SATURDAY FROM 6AM-11AM.  THE MENU INCLUDES COUNTRY HAM, SCRAMBLED EGGS, GRITS, BISCUITS & MORE.  TICKETS ARE $10 AND IT IS ALL YOU CAN EAT.

5/2 A FREE KIDS FISHING RODEO WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY AT BUCHANAN RESORT IN SPRINGVILLE ON SATURDAY MORNING.  REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 8AM AND FISHING BEGINS AT 9AM.  ALL KIDS WHO PARTICIPATE WILL RECEIVE A PRIZE.  KIDS WILL NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN POLES AND BAIT.

5/2  THE “TWISTER TROT” 5K RUN/WALK WILL BE ON SATURDAY AT UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL.  REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 7AM AND THE RACE WILL START AT 8AM.  THE ENTRY IS $25 ON RACE DAY.  PLUS, ALL UNION CITY SCHOOL STUDENTS MAY PARTICIPATE FOR HALF PRICE.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE UNION CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL PTO.

5/2  THE FIRST ANNUAL BIG SANDY PROJECT GRADUATION 5K COLOR RUN/WALK ON SATURDAY AT BIG SANDY HIGH SCHOOL STARTING AT 9AM.  ENTRY FEE IS $20.  THERE WILL BE TROPHIES AWARDED TO THE TOP FINISHERS IN EACH AGE BRACKET.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL CHRISTIE AT 731-441-4936.

5/2 THE HUNTINGDON FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT ARE HAVING A HAMBURGER/HOTDOG COOKOUT FUNDRAISER ON SATURDAY FROM 10AM-1PM IN THE PARKING LOT AT CASH SAVERS GROCERY STORE ON EAST MAIN IN HUNTINGDON.  FOR $6 YOU CAN GET A GRILLED HAMBURGER OR HOTDOG, CHIPS AND A DRINK.  PROCEEDS THEY RAISE WILL BENEFIT THE ST. JUDE’S CHILDREN RESEARCH HOSPITAL.

5/2  MARTIN PARKS AND RECREATION ARE TEAMING UP WITH HARPER’S WRECKER SERVICE AND BOY SCOUT TROOP 1776 FOR “TOUCH A TRUCK” ON SATURDAY FROM 10AM-1PM AT THE MARTIN RECREATION COMPLEX.  THE ANNUAL EVENT ALLOWS KIDS TO GET UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH OVER 30 VEHICLES INCLUDING A FIRE TRUCK, AMBULANCE, POLICE CAR, HELICOPTER AND MORE.  THE EVENT IS FREE OF CHARGE.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL MARTIN PARKS AND REC AT 587-6784.

5/2 THE DANA CORPORATION HENRY COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM WILL HOST THE 2ND ANNUAL BLUEGRASS GOSPEL SINGING ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE PARIS CIVIC CENTER.  DOORS OPEN AT 5PM AND THE MUSIC BEGINS AT 6PM.  TICKETS ARE $5 AND THEY’RE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.  THERE WILL BE MUSIC FROM “WIRE AND WOOD” ALONG WITH CONCESSIONS.  LUMINARIES WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE FOR $5 IN HONOR OR IN MEMORY OF A LOVE ONE TOUCHED BY CANCER.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT RELAY FOR LIFE.

5/2 UNION CITY CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 631 E. CHURCH STREET, WILL HOST “THE DAVID JOHNSON CHORUS” ON SATURDAY NIGHT STARTING AT 7PM.  ADMISSION IS FREE AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 885-8308.

5/2 EVERYONE IS INVITED TO THE JOHNSON CHAPEL UMC GOSPEL JUBILEE ON SATURDAY STARTING AT 4PM.  BRING YOUR LAWN CHAIR AND ENJOY AN AFTERNOON OF A VARIETY OF GOSPEL SINGERS.

5/2 THERE WILL BE A SPAGHETTI DINNER FUNDRAISER ON SATURDAY FROM 5PM-6PM AT CATHY’S CAFÉ IN DOWNTOWN MCKENZIE.  THE DINNER IS A BENEFIT FOR POLICE SGT. KIM (MALE) BARKER WHO IS SUFFERING FROM STAGE 4 CANCER.  THE PRICE IS $7 PER PERSON AND MONEY WILL GO TOWARDS BARKER’S CANCER TREATMENTS AND CARE.

5/2 THERE WILL BE AN ALUMNI FOOTBALL GAME BETWEEN DRESDEN AND MARTIN WESTVIEW ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE DRESDEN HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM.  YOU CAN GET ADVANCED TICKETS AT FIRST STATE BANK IN MARTIN & DRESDEN, WEAKLEY COUNTY MOTORS, 3J’S IN MARTIN, THE SIDELINE IN MARTIN AND AT BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS.  GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS ARE $10.  KICKOFF IS SET FOR 7.  PROCEEDS FROM THE GAME WILL BENEFIT THE FOOTBALL PROGRAMS FOR BOTH SCHOOLS.

5/3 THE MISS UNION CITY PAGEANT WILL BE HELD AT THE CIVIC AUDITORIUM ON SUNDAY STARTING AT 1PM.  THE 0-18 MONTHS AND 19 MONTHS-3 YEARS AGE DIVISIONS ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.  4 YEARS AND OLDER DIVISIONS MUST BE UNION CITY STUDENTS.  ENTRY FEE IS $25 AND YOU CAN PAY AT THE DOOR THIS WEEKEND.  ADMISSION IS $3.  ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT WILL GO TO THE UNION CITY SCHOOL BAND.  FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL AMIE AT 885-1632.

5/4  THE UNION CITY J’CETTES ARE SELLING EMBROIDERY MEMO BOARDS FOR $10 EACH.  THEY ARE AVAILABLE AT THE GALLERY SHOWROOM IN UNION CITY.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE OBION COUNTY HOMETOWN WALK OF HOPE.

5/5  DON SOL RESTAURANT IN UNION CITY WILL HOLD A CINCO DE MAYO FUNDRAISER FOR OBION COUNTY HOMETOWN WALK OF HOPE ON TUESDAY, MAY 5TH.  THEY’LL HAVE FREE T-SHIRTS, DOOR PRIZES AND A PERCENTAGE OF THEIR PROFITS FROM THE DAY WILL BENEFIT WALK OF HOPE.

5/6  THERE WILL BE A CAREER FAIR AT THE UNION CITY NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 6TH FROM 9AM-3PM.  OVER 20 EMPLOYERS INCLUDING COX OIL, TYSON FOODS AND COCA-COLA WITH BE ON HAND WITH OVER 150 JOBS OPENINGS.  PAY RATES RANGE FROM $7.25-$18.20 PER HOUR.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL GOODWILL CAREER SOLUTIONS AT 884-4324.

5/7  GOODWILL CAREER SOLUTIONS WILL CELEBRATE “GOODWILL WEEK” MAY 4TH-MAY 8TH  WITH SEVERAL WORKSHOPS FOR THE COMMUNITY.  ON MONDAY, MAY 4TH FROM 1PM-2PM, THERE WILL BE AN INTERVIEW SKILLS WORKSHOP WHERE INDIVIDUALS CAN LEARN HOW TO PREPARE AND WHAT TO DO DURING AN INTERVIEW.  ON THURSDAY, MAY 7TH FROM 10AM-11AM, THERE WILL BE AN EMAIL BASICS CLASS WHERE PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN HOW TO SET UP AND NAVIGATE AN EMAIL ACCOUNT.  ALL WORKSHOPS ARE OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 884-4324.

5/8 THE GOOD SAMARITAN HEATH AND WELLNESS CENTER WILL HOST A FUNDRAISING EVENT ON FRIDAY, MAY 8TH AT BUCKS CELEBRATION CENTER IN SOUTH FULTON BEGINNING AT 6PM.  THERE WILL BE LIVE MUSIC, DOOR PRIZES AND $1 FOOD ITEMS.  TICKETS ARE $5 AND CAN BE PURCHASE AT THE DOOR OR BY CALLING 270-472-0009. 

5/8 THE TOP FLOOR COMEDY AND DANCE CLUB, 500 SOUTH 1ST STREET IN UNION CITY, WILL HOST A “BATTLE OF THE BANDS” COMPETITION ON FRIDAY, MAY 15TH.  ENTRY FEE IS $25 AND THE DEADLINE TO ENTER IS FRIDAY, MAY 8TH.  PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE NATIONAL MS WALK.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 731-223-9922.

5/9 THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS ANNUAL “STAMP OUT HUNGER” FOOD DRIVE WILL BE SATURDY, MAY 9TH.  SIMPLY PLACE A BOX OR CAN OF NON-PERISHABLE FOOD NEXT TO YOUR MAILBOX AND YOUR MAIL CARRIER WILL PICK IT UP.  YOUR FOOD DONATIONS WILL BE DELIVERED TO LOCAL FOOD BANKS & PANTRIES.  FOR A LIST OF SUGGESTED DONATED ITEMS, GO TO FEEDINGAMERICA.ORG.

5/9  THE GOODWILL SHRINE CLUB WILL HOLD THEIR 6TH ANNUAL 4-MAN GOLF SCRAMBLE AT WYNRIDGE GOLF CLUB IN TROY ON SATURDAY, MAY 9TH.  REGISTRATION STARTS AT 7AM WITH TEE OFF AT 8AM.  ENTRY FEE IS $240 PER TEAM IF YOU PAY BY MAY 6TH; OTHERWISE IT IS $260 ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT.  TO FIND OUT MORE OR TO GET REGISTERED, CALL 446-4196.

5/9  THE 4TH ANNUAL “RUN TO REMEMBER” 5K WILL BE SATURDAY, MAY 9TH AT OBION COUNTY CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL IN TROY.  REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 8AM AND THE RACE STARTS AT 9AM.  THERE WILL BE A BALLOON RELEASE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE RUN AT 8:45AM.  ENTRY FEE IS $20 PER PERSON, ALTHOUGH FAMILY TEAMS OF 3 OR MORE WILL RECEIVE A DISCOUNTED RATE OF $15 PER PERSON.  YOU CAN ALSO PURCHASE A SIGN WITH THE NAME AND BIRTHDAY OF YOUR SPECIAL BABY FOR $5 AND IT WILL BE PLACED ALONG THE LAST PART OF THE COURSE.  PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT WILL BENEFIT THE PSALM 4:8 FOUNDATION.

5/9 THE DANA CORPORATION HENRY COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM WILL HOST THE 3RD ANNUAL CAR & BIKE SHOW IN THE PARKING LOT AT DANA CORPORATION (ACROSS FROM THE NATIONAL GUARD) IN PARIS ON SATURDAY, MAY 9TH.  PRE-REGISTRATION FEE IS $20; OTHERWISE IT IS $25 ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT.  JUDGING BEGINS AT 11AM AND AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED AT 3PM.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL DAVE AT 731-415-0997.

5/9  MARTIN PARKS AND RECREATION AND HISTORIC DOWNTOWN MARTIN WILL HOST THE FIRST “FAMILY NIGHT OUT” OF THE SEASON ON SATURDAY, MAY 9TH FROM 6PM-8PM IN FESTIVAL PARK.  THERE WILL BE CONCESSIONS, GAMES AND THE SPLASH PAD WILL BE OPEN FOR THE KIDS.

5/15  THERE WILL BE A WALK OF HOPE COMMUNITY YARD SALE AT UNION CITY NURSING AND REHAB ON EAST REELFOOT AVENUE ON FRIDAY, MAY 15TH FROM 8AM-5PM.  DONATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THURSDAY, MAY 14TH.  PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT WILL BENEFIT THE OBION COUNTY HOMETOWN WALK OF HOPE WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 6TH.

5/15  THE UNION CITY CIVITAN CLUB ARE SELLING VIDALIA ONIONS AGAIN THIS YEAR.  THE SWEET ONIONS WILL BE DELIVERED AROUND MAY 15TH FRESH FROM THE VIDALIA ONION FIELDS IN GEORGIA.  THE CLUB WILL BE TAKING PRE-ORDERS AND SELLING A 10LBS BAG FOR $10.  ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE WILL GO TOWARD SUPPORTING THE CLUB’S CHARITABLE PROJECTS.  FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO PRE-ORDER, CALL JERRY PASCHALL AT 536-5519. 

5/16 THE PARIS FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM AND THE DOWNTOWN PARIS ASSOCIATION WILL HOST THEIR “DARTIN’ DOWNTOWN” 5K RUN/1 MILE FUN WALK ON SATURDAY, MAY 16TH.  REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 7AM IN THE METHODIST CHURCH PARKING LOT, THE 5K BEGINS AT 8AM AND THE WALK STARTS AT 8:30AM.  REGISTRATION FEE IS $15 IF YOU PAY BY MAY 9TH OTHERWISE IT WILL BE $20 ON RACE DAY. 

5/16  SULLIVAN DENTISTRY WILL HOST THE “RUNNING FOR OUR HEROES” 5K ON SATURDAY, MAY 16TH AT UNION CITY HIGH SCHOOL.  REGISTRATION STARTS AT 7:45AM AND THE RACE BEGINS AT 8:30AM.  ENTRY FEE IS $20 IF YOU PAY BY MAY 9TH, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE $25 ON RACE DAY.  YOU CAN ALSO PURCHASE LUMINARIES IN HONOR OF THOSE FIGHTING CANCER OR IN MEMORY OF A LOVED ONE FOR $5 EACH.  ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE OBION COUNTY WALK OF HOPE.

5/16 THE “RIBS, RIDIN’ & ROCKIN’ FOR RELAY” EVENT WILL BE AT MEO MIO’S AT PARIS LANDING ON SATURDAY, MAY 16TH.  REGISTRATION FOR THE MOTORCYCLE RIDE BEGINS AT 9AM IN THE PARKING LOT OF MEO MIO’S AND THE RIDE BEGINS AT 10AM.  THE ENTRY FEE IS $20 FOR THE RIDER AND $10 FOR THE PASSENGER.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT HENRY COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL GREG AT 642-2876.
