7/31  APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2014 QUOTA DEER HUNTS AT LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA MAY BE SUBMITTED BY THURSDAY.  THE APPLICATION FEE IS $5 ONLINE OR $7 BY PHONE.  APPLICANTS CAN CHECK BACK BY LATE-AUGUST TO SEE IF THEY WERE DRAWN.  BOTH YOUTH AND ADULT HUNTS ARE AVAILABLE.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 270-924-2065 OR LBL.ORG.

7/31  THE GLEASON CLINIC IS HOSTING A FREE “WOMEN’S NIGHT OUT” HEALTH SEMINAR ON THURSDAY AT 6PM.  A REGISTERED DIETITIAN WILL HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT HEALTHY EATING HABITS AND WEIGHT LOSS. PLUS, THERE WILL BE A CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER ON HAND TO DEMONSTRATE EFFECTIVE FITNESS EXERCISES.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL THE GLEASON CLINIC AT 648-5634

8/1  THE TWIN CITIES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL HOST A “NITE LITE” GOLF SCRAMBLE ON FRIDAY AT THE FULTON COUNTRY CLUB.  ENTRY FEE IS $25 PER PERSON AND THAT INCLUDES DINNER, CART, GREEN FEE & 1 GLOW BALL.  A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE FULTON COUNTRY CLUB.

8/2  THE TWRA WILL HAVE THEIR WATERFOWL BLIND PERMIT DRAWING ON SATURDAY MORNING.  REGISTRATION STARTS AT 7AM AND THE DRAWING WILL BE AT 10AM.  YOU MUST APPEAR IN-PERSON AT THE DESIGNATED LOCATION WITH APPROPRIATE LICENSES AND PERMITS.  BLINDS IN WEST TENNESSEE INCLUDE:  BIG SANDY, GOOCH UNIT A, REELFOOT, CAMDEN UNITS I & II AND WEST SANDY.  TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE DRAWING, VISIT THE TWRA WEBSITE.

8/2  THE 3RD ANNUAL “CHAIRS THAT CARE” AUCTION AND SOCIAL IS SATURDAY AT THE PARIS WINERY STARTING AT 5PM.  TICKETS ARE $10 AND INCLUDE HOR D’OEUVRES, MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT AND MORE.  THERE WILL ALSO BE SILENT AND LIVE AUCTIONS OF DECORATED CHAIRS DONATED BY THE COMMUNITY.  PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT WILL GO TOWARS THE CARING HEARTS FUND OF THE PARIS AND HENRY COUNTY HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION.  TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED AT THE CANCER CARE CENTER, THE HCMC PINK PETAL GIFT SHOP AND MY FAVORITE THINGS. 

8/3  LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA WILL HOST THE ANNUAL HUMMINGBIRD FESTIVAL ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AT THE WOODLANDS NATURE STATION FROM 10AM-4PM EACH DAY.  THEY’LL HAVE HUMMINGBIRD BANDING DEMONSTRATIONS, WILDLIFE SKETCHING WORKSHOP, WILDLIFE ART SHOW AND MORE.  ADMISSION IS $6 FOR AGES 13 AND UP, $4 FOR AGES 5-12 AND FREE FOR CHILDREN 4 AND UNDER.

8/3  THE SALES-TAX HOLIDAY STARTS ON FRIDAY AND CONTINUES THROUGH SUNDAY.  CLOTHING AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES LESS THAN $100 IN VALUE PER ITEM AND COMPUTERS LESS THAN $1500 ARE ELIGIBLE.  TABLET COMPUTERS, LIKE IPADS, ARE ALSO EXEMPT FROM SALES TAX.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE TAX-FREE WEEKEND, GO TO TNTAXHOLIDAY.COM.

8/3  THE DEADLINE FOR ENTERING THE “FAIREST OF THE FAIR” AND OTHER PAGEANTS AT THE HENRY COUNTY FAIR IS COMING UP SOON.  ENTRY FEE FOR THE FAIREST OF THE FAIR IS $20 AND MUST LIST A SPONSOR.  THE ENTRY FEE FOR MISS TEEN AND ALL OTHER PAGEANTS IS $10.  ENTRIES MUST BE IN BY FRIDAY TO BE LISTED IN THE PROGRAM.  LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL 6PM ON SUNDAY, WITH AN ADDITIONAL $5 LATE FEE.  THE PAGEANTS KICK OFF MONDAY AT THE FAIRGROUNDS IN PARIS.

8/4  THE GLEASON CLINIC WILL HOST THEIR ANNUAL HUNTER SAFETY COURSE AUGUST 4TH, 5TH, 7TH AND 8TH AT 6PM.  THE CLASS IS FREE OF CHARGE, BUT YOU MUST BE 10 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AND ATTEND ALL 4 CLASSES.  CALL THE GLEASON CLINIC FOR INFORMATION ON HOW TO REGISTER AT 648-5634.

8/3  E.W. GROVE SCHOOL INVITE ALL INCOMING FRESHMAN AND THEIR PARENTS TO A “BACK TO SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE” ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 5TH AT 6PM.  THE OPEN HOUSE WILL BE IN THE GROVE GYM AND WILL INCLUDE INFORMATIONAL SESSIONS ON POLICIES, PROCEDURES AND HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.  YOU WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO TAKE A TOUR AND BECOME FAMILIAR WITH PROGRAMS OFFERED AT THE SCHOOL.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 642-4586

8/10  FORMER RESIDENTS OF THE AREA NOW KNOWN AT LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES WILL GATHER ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 10TH AT FENTON FOR THEIR ANNUAL HOMECOMING CELEBRATION.  ALL FORMER RESIDENTS, RELATIVES AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.  FENTON IS LOCATED JUST EAST OF THE EGGNER’S FERRY BRIDGE ON US68/KY80;  THE REUNION WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE PAVILION.  TO FIND OUT MORE, GO TO LBL.ORG.

8/10  MASQUERADE THEATER AND THE SPOTLIGHT PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY WILL PRESENT THEIR YOUTH SUMMER WORKSHOP PERFORMANCE OF “PETER PAN JR.” AT THE CAPITOL THEATER IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY.  THEY’LL HAVE PERFORMANCES FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT AT 7:30PM AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT 2PM.  THERE WILL BE 3 ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES NEXT WEEKEND TOO.  TICKETS ARE JUST $10 PER PERSON AND YOU CAN GET THEM IN ADVANCE AT UCMASQUERADETHEATER.COM OR AT THE CAPITOL THEATER BOX OFFICE 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO SHOWTIME.

8/31  HERE’S A COUPLE OF GREAT IDEAS FOR SUMMER FUN FROM THE PARIS LANDING GOLF COURSE.   “TWILIGHT RATES ARE NOW IN EFFECT.   PLAY FOR $28 AFTER 1PM EVERY DAY.   PARIS LANDING ALSO HAS A “GROWING THE GAME” SPECIAL NOW THROUGH AUGUST 31ST.   JUNIORS 17 AND UNDER PLAY FREE WITH PAYING PARENT OR GUARDIAN AFTER 1PM SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.  ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL PARIS LANDING GOLF COURSE AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE SPECIALS THIS SUMMER.
