10/2  THE SOUL FOOD CAFÉ WILL BE OPEN AGAIN THIS THURSDAY NIGHT STARTING AT 5:30PM AT THE EXCHANGE STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST IN UNION CITY.  THE MEAL THIS WEEK, HOSTED BY THE CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, WILL FEATURE CHILI, CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP, GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES AND DESSERTS.  THE MEAL IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO COME OUT TO ENJOY.

10/2  THE 4TH ANNUAL “TASTE OF KEN-TENN” EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED BECAUSE OF EXPECTED RAIN.  THE EVENT WILL NOW BE HELD AT THE OBION COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS IN UNION CITY AND WILL FROM 5:30PM-7:30PM 15 RESTAURANTS FROM WEST TENNESSEE AND KENTUCKY WILL BE SHARING THEIR SPECIALTIES ALONG WITH MUSIC FROM BLIND RED ROOSTER.  PLUS, THERE WILL BE WINE TASTING SET UP IN THE ROTARY TENT WITH THE PURPLE TOAD WINERY FROM PADUCAH AND THE PARIS WINERY SERVING THEIR WINES THIS YEAR.  TICKETS ARE $25 IN ADVANCE AT THE MAIN STREET OFFICE OR $30 AT THE DOOR.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF NORTHWEST TENNESSEE, MASQUERADE THEATER AND MAIN STREET UNION CITY. 

10/2  HENRY COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER WILL OFFER HEALTH SCREENINGS AT HENRY COUNTY FARM BUREAU, LOCATED ON NORTH POPLAR IN PARIS, ON THURSDAY MORNING FROM 8:30AM-11:30AM.  FREE FINGER STICK BLOOD SUGAR AND BLOOD PRESSURE TEST WILL BE AVAILABLE.  FINGER STICK CHOLESTEROL TESTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR A $3 FEE AND LIPID PANEL TESTS ARE $10 EACH.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 731-644-8266.

10/3  TICKETS ARE ON SALE THIS WEEK FOR THE “SALAD SPECTACULAR” LUNCH FUNDRAISER FOR THE FRIENDS OF THE RHEA LIBRARY.  ONLY 200 TICKETS WILL BE SOLD TO THE EVENT, WHICH WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY FROM 11AM-1:30PM AT GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN PARIS.  TICKETS ARE $10 AND THEY’RE AVAILABLE AT THE LIBRARY, MAGGIE’S, SECURITY BANK, PERKINS PHARMACY AND COMMERCIAL BANK.  THE LUNCH INCLUDES A CHOICE OF SALADS WITH FRENCH BREAD, ICE TEA AND COOKIES.  PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARDS NEW BOOKS, SOFTWARE, PROGRAMS AND NEW TABLES & CHAIRS FOR THE LIBRARY.

10/4  THE PARIS CHAPTER 734 OF THE EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION WILL BE CONDUCTING A YOUNG EAGLES DAY WHICH WILL INCLUDE FREE AIRPLANE RIDES AT THE PARIS/HENRY COUNTY AIRPORT ON SATURDAY.  THE AIRPLANE RIDES WILL BE FROM 9AM-2PM, WEATHER PERMITTING.  PARENTS AND/OR LEGAL GUARDIANS MUST BE PRESENT FOR THE KIDS TO RIDE.

10/4  UNION CITY FIRST ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH WILL FEATURE A “GOD’S AMAZING GIRLS” FASHION SHOW WITH THE LATEST FASHIONS BY THE WHISPERING TREE ON FRIDAYFROM 6PM-8PM AT THE CHURCH.  THEN, ON SATURDAY THE CHURCH WILL HOST THE “WOMEN OF JOY CONFERENCE” FEATURING SPEAKER AND CHRISTIAN SINGER JOANI TABOR.  THIS EVENT IS $25 AND INCLUDES A CATERED LUNCH BY HIGHER GROUND.  TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THESE EVENTS, CALL THE CHURCH AT 731-885-2612 

10/4  HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH WILL HOST THEIR 32ND ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST FROM 11AM-7PM ON SATURDAY AT THE HENRY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS.  THEY’LL HAVE A PETTING ZOO, PONY RIDES, INFLATABLES, MUSIC, CRAFTS AND A BAKE SALE.

10/4  THERE WILL BE A BENEFIT COOKOUT FOR JENNIFER ANDRES ON SATURDAY FROM 11AM-2PM AT KROGER ON MINERAL WELLS IN PARIS.  AT 2PM, THERE WILL BE AN AUCTION FEATURING ITEMS DONATED BY LOCAL BUSINESSES IN HENRY COUNTY.  ALL MONEY RAISED WILL BENEFIT JENNIFER ANDRES WITH MEDICAL BILLS AND EXPENSES AS SHE BATTLES CERVICAL CANCER.

10/5  THE 43RD ANNUAL REELFOOT ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL IS SET FOR FRIDAY, THROUGH SUNDAY AT REELFOOT LAKE.  OVER 40,000 PEOPLE ARE EXPECTED AT THE ANNUAL FESTIVAL WHICH WAS CHOSEN AS ONE OF THE TOP 3 ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOWS IN TENNESSEE.  THERE ARE OVER 300 VENDORS SET UP THROUGHOUT THE PARK.  TO FIND OUT MORE, INCLUDING HOURS AND LOCATIONS, GO TO REELFOOTARTSANDCRAFTS.COM.

10/5  MASQUERADE THEATER WILL STAGE HARPER LEE’S “TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” AT THE CAPITOL THEATER IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY AGAIN THIS WEEKEND.    FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT SHOWS WILL BE AT 7:30PM AND THE SUNDAY AFTERNOON SHOW WILL BE AT 2PM.  TICKETS ARE $10 EACH AND YOU CAN GET THEM IN ADVANCE BY GOING TO UCMASQUERADETHEATRE.COM OR AT THE CAPITOL THEATER BOX OFFICE 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO SHOW TIME.

10/6  THE TWIN CITIES CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS HAVING THEIR ANNUAL GOLF SCRAMBLE AT THE FULTON COUNTY CLUB ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11TH.  THE DAY WILL KICK OFF WITH LUNCH AT 11AM AND THEN TEE-OFF WILL FOLLOW AT NOON.  TEAM ENTRY IS $200 AND THE SCRAMBLE IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 36 TEAMS.  ENTRY DEADLINE IS MONDAY, OCTOBER 6TH, SO CONTACT THE CHAMBER TO SIGN UP AT 731-479-7029.

10/8  THE SALVATION ARMY ANGEL TREE INTERVIEWS WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8TH FROM 10AM-2PM AT THE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER IN PARIS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS.  YOU MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY.  TO FIND OUT MORE, CALL 642-2988.

10/8  BAPTIST MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN UNION CITY WILL SPONSOR “GRIEF SHARE”, A GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP, ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS FOR FIVE WEEKS STARTING ON OCTOBER 8TH.  THE GROUP WILL MEET FROM 3PM-4:30PM IN THE HOSPITAL’S ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM LOCATED NEAR THE EAST ENTRANCE.  IF YOU HAVE LOST A LOVED ONE, YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.  CALL 884-8210 TO FIND OUT MORE.

10/11  HISTORIC DOWNTOWN MARTIN IS HAVING A BOSTON BUTT FUNDRAISER.  PRE-SALE TICKETS ARE $30 EACH AND THEY’RE AVAILABLE AT MONOGRAMS & MORE, LOOKING GLASS, LANDIE LEGONS AT A NEW YOU OR BY CALLING LYNETTE AT 431-8156.  THE BOSTON BUTTS WILL BE COOKED ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11TH IN DOWNTOWN MARTIN AND CAN BE PICKED UP AT 4PM.  PROCEEDS WILL BENEFIT HISTORIC DOWNTOWN MARTIN.

10/11  THE HENRY COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK ASSOCIATION WILL HOST THEIR ANNUAL “FALL TRAIL RIDE” SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11TH AT THE LAUREL HILL CATTLE COMPANY IN PURYEAR.  THE FIRST RIDE OUT WILL BE AT 10AM, LUNCH WILL BE AT NOON AND THE 2ND RIDE WILL BE AT 1:30PM.  THE COST IS $10 PER PERSON OR $30 PER CAR LOAD.

10/12  CIVIL WAR DAYS RETURNS TO COLUMBUS-BELMONT START PARK FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10TH THROUGH SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12TH.  THEY’LL HAVE BATTLE REENACTMENTS AT 2PM ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY ALONG WITH  LIVING HISTORY AND ENCAMPMENTS.  PLUS, THERE WILL BE A GHOST WALK TOUR FRIDAY EVENING AND A CIVIL WAR BALL ON SATURDAY NIGHT.  CALL 270-677-2327 TO GET COMPLETE DETAILS.

10/17  DISCOVERY PARK OF AMERICA WILL CELEBRATE ITS 1st ANNIVERSARY WITH A BBQ DINNER, FIREWORKS AND PERFORMER JASON WILLIAMS ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18TH.  GATES OPEN AT 5:30PM AND THE SHOW BEGINS AT 7PM.  TICKETS ARE $20 FOR DPA MEMBERS AND $25 FOR NON-MEMBERS.  TICKETS MUST BE PURCHASED BY OCTOBER 17TH.  YOU CAN GET YOUR TICKETS BY CALLING 731-885-5455 OR BY GOING TO DISCOVERYPARKOFAMERICA.COM.

10/18  THE PARIS PI AND THE KRIDER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER WILL SPONSOR A FREE JAZZ AMBASSADORS CONCERT PRESENTED BY THE U.S. ARMY FIELD BAND ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18TH STARTING AT 7PM AT THE KRIDER.  FREE TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE PI OFFICE ON EAST WOOD STREET IN PARIS OR BY CALLING 642-1162.

10/26  THE JUNIOR AUXILLARY OF OBION COUNTY’S CROWN CLUB WILL PRESENT THEIR “PUMPKINS IN THE PARK” EVENT ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26TH  FROM 12:30PM-2:30PM AT KIWANIS PARK IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY.  THERE WILL BE FACE-PAINTING, DOOR PRIZES, CANDY AND A FREE PUMPKIN FOR THE KIDS.
